Philippe Charlot Harry Frommermann and Robert Biberti founded this close harmony sextet in 1928, and it gave its first major concert in Leipzig two years later. The group enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame, recording a total of 138 titles before March 1935. Their career was interrupted after Adolf Hitler came to power because the Nazis hated the fact that half the group's members were Jewish, and they were banned from radio and stages in Germany. They gave their last German concert in 1934 in Munich, only seven years after their debuts. Nazi Germany had closed the finest prewar chapter in the nation's vocal history.
